styling tips #1

i am excited to share my passion and thoughts with you here.
i love getting to help others feel better about themselves through how they look. this is the first of a series called styling tips. i want you to feel good in the pieces that you have, and i am going to help you do it.

my clients always want help creating outfits out of the pieces they already own,
which i love.
i always have to start with the closet.

as a stylist, i find the closet is the root of every wardrobe.
it houses all the goods.
so to get started on making your wardrobe shop-able,
i've created a list, of how to make your closet full of stuff, into your dream wardrobe.

1) okay don't kill me here. but first, you must take all your clothes out of your closet. sort them by category: shirts, sweaters, skirts, pants, jackets, dresses, belts, hats, shoes, and jewelry. cold weather and warm weather.

2) keep. toss. donate.
yep, you gotta do it. this is the most overwhelming part of this whole process, for sure. it's hard to get rid of things you spent your hard earned money on. but if you don't wear it - someone else will. i try to keep that in mind when i clean out my closet and my client's closets.

keep the pieces you wear all the time and love.
toss the pieces you stare at, every time you walk into your closet and think -
that fits me so weird, i'm never going to wear that.
donate also means sell. there are tons of resell shops all over place.
it's a nice way to at least get a little cash.

3) hang by style, sleeve length, then color. i know, sounds backwards. but, i find it much easier to "shop your closet" when you can see exactly what's in it. hanging your garments from shortest to longest, will make it much easier to shop your closet. trust me.

i like to color coordinate each section of garment. take my sleeveless shirts for example, i will start with my warmer colors - think oranges and reds then i'll fade to yellows, creams, on to greens, blues, purples, black. do you know what i mean?

4) now, what to do with the accessories. keep in mind the pieces you wear on the regular versus the pieces you wear once and a while. i keep things i wear more often, easier to get to and put away, so i will. if, i organize something impractically it just means i am not going to put it back where it belongs. you feel me on this?

jewelry: hang it so you can see it. otherwise  you won't wear it. i use a jewelry tree (you can see from this post) on my dresser for my necklaces and have a jewelry box (from my husband) to keep my earrings, rings, and bracelets in (he must have been trying to tell me something).

scarfs and belts: a coat hook or tie hanger are my favorite things. it's keeps them all together and wrinkle free.

hats: i keep my displayed above my shoe boxes in my closet. it's best to keep them out so they can keep their shape.

shoes: sorting by season and reason is key. gym shoes need to probably stay downstairs or just in the gym bag, right? no reason to take up space when there are pretty pumps to display. sandals with sandals, pumps with pumps, boots with boots. i recommend organizing them by color, warm to cool, just like above.

5) enjoy those pieces you fell in love with. create outfits that make you feel wonderful.

i found all these adorable closets here, here, here, here, here, and oh yeah, here

peter pilotto + target

i've been pretty distracted with all the sjp hype lately, that i almost forgot to talk about the new target colab! but who can blame me, cards and shoes. and a target colab so much to cover, so little time.
i love the color block of this blazer

the pattern mixing of this collection is pretty awesome. it makes it hard to pick my favorite look. what are your favorite pieces?

see what i mean? the color blocking? love it.

this dress is totally stole the show, and how could it not? it's totally gorgeous!

did you know that this look is a top and skirt!? you might want to call it a "hook up" - thank you Jenna Lyons for that term of endearment. and yes, you can totally do this.

i am totally obsessed with this look. the structure of this skirt is totally fab!

who's ready for summer!? haha me either, well the warmth sounds pretty fantastic! i love the nod to the corset design of this top. what do you think?

here's another favorite piece of mine. i really like the soft shades of blue mixed with the black and white of this dress.

okay, so i know you've been wondering...but here is my favorite look from the peter pilotto + target collaboration! the silhoute is so flirty and fun. i also really like the pattern mixing they did. all the colors and prints really go together well.

the collection will hit target stores on feb. 9th. you can also shop the collection on net-a-porter too.

who is ready to fun to stores on feb. 9th? i know i am!

current obsessions

obsessions

i have some pieces that have been running through my head a lot lately. i was able to grab a chambray dress, pink denim, and fatigue jacket this weekend. i'm also loving the silver flats and gorgeous business card holder. i'm excited to wear all these pieces now and into spring.

a chambray dress two ways. layered up for now and paired with cute flats for spring. would you rock these looks?

a fatigue jacket worn two ways. the more casual look on the left. i'm sure i will wear this look a ton! a dressier look on the right. how adorable is her skirt?

who doesn't remember when cameron wore these salmon colored denim!? i love them now and am excited to wear this color into spring. i love how both of these looks can be worn dressy or casual. will you be wearing pink this spring?

these are the pieces that i am obsessing over, right now. what do you think about these pieces? what are you obsessing over?

sjp sweet kicks

as soon as i heard sjp was pairing up with manolo, i died. a real life sex and the city carrie shoe - on my foot, duh. i'm in, fo sho. so i've been stalking the internet to see every pair i can find. so, below is every pair and purse i could find. check out the gorgeous pieces sjp and manolo have created.

how precious is the ribbon detail on the back of these pumps. which by the way were inspired from the ribbon her mother used to tie in her hair. aweeeee

how sweet are the bows on this pair.

what a lovely gal.

how fantastic is the sjp on the sole. swoon.

the pics from this shoot are so inspiring. i just want to print them out and hang them all over my house. i'm sure my mister would just love it. haha

so, out of all the gorgeous shoes ms. parker designed, i would have to say, this pair kind of does it for me. the color - amazing, the silhouette classic, and suede so luscious. on feb. 28 at midnight, these are what i plan on snagging.

see - they are just so pretty.

this is one of my favorite shots from the covetour shoot. it shows all the shoes perfectly! how magical are all these colors? so the prices of these beauties are ranging from just under $200 - $500 bucks. not sure what styles are priced higher or lower. if anyone finds those detes, i would love to know.

fabulous news! sjp is gets to fly around the u.s. and promote these beauties.

dallas - here we come!
i mean, for sure. a chance to meet sjp!

what pairs are you lusting over?
