weekend in austin

look 1: top | bottoms | hat

look 2: crop top | skirt

look 3: dress | sandal

this weekend i am headed down to celebrate my girlfriends' bachelorette party in austin! i've got everything pretty much packed (well mentally anyway) haha. i found this adorable swim suit (look #1) - it reminds me of andy warhol - at aerie! isn't that crazy!? i have been more and more impressed with their stuff lately. and my inner 18 year old self would is so happy right now, i used to shop at american eagle like it was going out of style. i sure do adore a classic fedora. i found this one at bebe, but target always (yes always) has a similar one that i usually grab before a trip. they always get a little messed up - when they get wet, and are pretty cheap. so yeah, i will probably need a new hat. gotta make sure i don't get burned, ya know? i pulled together look #2 to wear out on 6th street (i've never been, where should we go?) i loved the contrast of the bright orange crop top against the navy and cream stripe skirt for a fun night out look. i will probably wear my midi skirt from hm and a fitted tank and my go-to bcbgeneration sandals out on the town. sounds like a good plan to me. then for look #3 i grabbed a great floral dress to wear on sunday to the lingerie shower with a nude shoe.

i've never been to austin before, do you have any recommendations? i'm dying to get a pic the famous austin mural, is that close to 6th st? man, i sure hope so. i'm excited to explore a new place with my girlfriends from college. what are you up to this weekend? i hope something fun!

voltaire affair

maxi: bcbgeneration (old) but similar here | blazer: bcbg (old) but similar here | pumps: bcbgeneration (old) but similar here | clutch: bcbg (old) but similar here | necklaces: nashelle and monogram | bracelets: j.crew, stella and dot, and j.crew

the hubs and i went out with a great couple this weekend to a wonderful restaurant voltaire in the west bottoms. it was incredible, delicious apps, kangaroo, and signature cocktails,  yes i said kangaroo. and yes, i ordered it. i couldn't believe it was on the menu, so i had to try it. i mean, it was too crazy not to try. and it was delicious! would you ever try it?

we then headed over to cellar and loft and opened up a couple of bottles of wine from our locker and chatted the night away on the patio.

don't you just love nights like those? i sure do!

classic rock

cardigan: j.crew (old) but similar here | dress: ruby rouge last worn here | flats: target | bag: tory burch | necklace: nashelle

who loves some classic rock!? well my neighbors sure do! they throw a deck party the friday of memorial day to listen to the 500 song count down on the fox! and have created a fun game around the count down - each person gets a name tag and writes down three classic rock bands. then listen along and mark off your bands as a song of theirs plays. the first one to mark all their bands off wins! now, you might be wondering, did i win, haha no. but i did have journey (duh), ac/dc, and the eagles. the hubs and i had a blast just getting to catch up with our neighbors and listen to good music. have you attended a deck party to celebrate classic rock?

layered

dress: j.crew factory (old) but similar here | chambray: j.crew |  belt: jcrew (old) but similar here | pumps: bcbgeneration worn here and similar here | bag: tory burch | necklaces: nashelle and etsy | ring: david yurman

ever need a way to wear a look to feel more comfortable and casual? i love layering my chambray shirt from j.crew over a printed dress to get that look. i then tie on a belt to create a pulled together flattering look. plus this is a great way to keep yourself covered during these (sometimes) chilly days, or even in the office. this is definitely a look i will be re-wearing this year!

happy friday and have a great memorial weekend!

closet organization: my first client

i was excited to get back home for the weekend and work with my clients in oklahoma! i kicked off the weekend with my very first client, my mama! i started styling by dressing my mom. she is a political  figure and has to look good all the times. but, she doesn't love having to wear a black suit with a white shirt (day in and day out). she has way more personality than that! she likes to have fun with her clothes - and that's where i come in! plus i can help organize to make it easier to see what she has in her closet. below are a few before photos.

my mission as a stylist is to make your clothes work for you. i went through my mom's closet and tossed out pieces that were too dated for her, and told her what pieces she needed to be tailored to bring them up to date so she can keep wearing them. i went through her closet with her and had her show me the pieces she wanted to get rid of. and she had great insight and we got rid of basically everything she did love!

i then reorganized all her clothes to make it easier to create looks everyday. we moved her 'out of season' tops and jackets up high and out of reach. i then organized her pants by season and moved the casual springy pairs to the front. organized the dresses by dressiness to work appropriate, i tucked the dressier dresses to the back. then pulled the skirts together, jackets and organized her suits by color. she rotates her suits so she doesn't re-wear them back to back (love that she does that). i then organized her tops by sleeve length and dressiness.

then came the t-shirts and boxes and extra shoe racks. my mama has a lot of tee shirts (especially oklahoma state t-shirts). i took it all out and divided all of the shirts (along with sweat pants/ yoga pants) and refolded and organized according to category. then we placed the osu short sleeve and long sleeve tees with the woven baskets, sweaters in the large stripe box, the swim suits and cover ups in the see through box, and the extra scarfs in the little turquoise box. then i got rid of the extra shoe racks. i mean she has this bad mama-jama and didn't need the little baby ones that were tucked away.

then we created a few looks for her to wear now. i put together looks for her using pieces she wanted to wear. a light weight tweed skirt, and a printed top. i made both of those pieces stand out by pairing pieces that compliment her figure.

doesn't my mama look great!! i loved getting to style her and make her feel great about the pieces she owns! now onto the check list and helping her find the perfect pieces to complete her wardrobe.

let me know if i can help make you fall in love with your clothes again!

guest starring: emily clark

how adorable is this sweet girl! this is emily clark and i am excited to have her on the blog today!

emily clark and i met on instagram (i know, right!?) and i have adored our growing friendship.

emily has started her own business closet guru (isn't that name amazing)! she and i bonded immediately over our passion for making women feel great through personal styling. emily's business also focuses on personal assisting and organization. it's totally genius! now i just need her to come over and help me with everything!

emily is currently living in kansas and is expanding her business all over the place. she is one focused lady and i am inspired by her fire and drive to make her dreams happen. if you are in need of help in any of these areas - emily is a great resource. she can get your office organized, your wardrobe in check and getting your life together (aka pay your bills on time). and who doesn't need a little help.

definitely check emily out on facebook, instagram, and blog

camo my way

shirt: gap (old) but similar here | jeans: baldwin

i hope you all loved having andrea from style my way on gussied up yesterday! she is such a sweet heart and i love getting to know her. i love her outfits and sense of style. if you missed her post it's over here, and if you haven't been to her blog yet, you gotta check it out. she puts together great looks and re-works items she's already worn before, so you can see another way to style it - awesome!!

i created this look for a casual day look for work. i like to wear a dark pair of denim jeans to keep a casual look polished and paired with a great knit tee. personally i'm not a huge fan of camo - but i just adored this top with a stripe sleeve. i added the leopard belt and gobs of jewels to add some glam and sass. and how excited is everyone to wear sandals! yay spring!!

i've got another great post for tomorrow! come back and see who i want you to meet!
